What do you prefer? This? Your change… or THAT! Hello, my name is Ryan and today we will talk about something that affects everybody: payment. In many countries digital payments have been around for decades, which is really cool! China and Sweden, for example, are considered cashl… That might be true. But other countries like Germany or Austria, for example, love cash. And I do, too! Cash has been around for ages, so why change a running system? Just think about security. All your card details and personal information are digital, so they could be hacked or stolen. Actually, playing with your mobile phone is considered very secure because of biometric identification. Okay, I’ll give you an example: if you lose your mobile phone and somebody takes it, what can you do with it? Not much. Now consider this: what happens if you lose a bundle of cash? And just think about the time efficiency. Paying with my mobile phone or my card saves me about 20 seconds every time I buy something. That doesn’t sound like a lot. But if I buy groceries three times a week, it ads up. It’s like one morning you wake up… …and somebody is giving you a voucher for some extra time. Personally I’d be happy to get even five minutes more sleep. And this is not only an advantage to me, but also to the people waiting in line behind me. That would be 3.50 EUR, please. Here you go, two euros… …and 20 cents. Sorry, this is candy. I’m so sorry. How much was it again? 3.50!!! Okay, but there are situations where you need to pay with cash like a parking meter or a shopping cart, for example. Are you kidding me? What century are you living in? In San Francisco, for example, they have an app that not only finds you the closest parking spot, but also pays for it. Cashless payment also comes in really handy when you’re traveling abroad. You don’t need to carry around a lot of cash. And many card issuers already offer free currency conversions. Real simple. Yeah, but simple can quickly turn into big trouble! Cash is real money, so when you hand over actual money you think twice about the necessity! It’s so easy to pay with card that the risk for overspending and getting into debt are so much higher. Oh please, I beg you… Not if you’re using an app that helps you keep track of all your expenses! Cash is filthy! Do you know how much bacteria is on a bank note? Scientists found out that there are hundreds of microorganisms on bank notes! Me?? Yeah, but silver and copper for example, they release ions which kill bacteria. And paper money is dry, so there’s no ideal environment for the bacteria to grow! And if you touch a subway handle, then there’s at least the same amount of bacteria on it! Did you know that in Japan they have ATMs which heat up the money to 200 degrees celsius, so that they can dispense clean money? It doesn’t matter how clean a bank note is, it only takes one ill person or any other form of contamination… Blerg! Oh, my god! Of course there are
advantages and disadvantages, but cashless payment is here and it’s not going to go away anytime soon it seems, so it just makes sense to embrace the change! Maybe you’re right… but I still pay with cash as long as it’s around. What do you guys think? Does cashless payment makes sense or not? Write your views in the comments below!
